Description
Sap Sago Cheese is a 100% natural cheese with a deliciously distinctive flavor. The hard, low-fat, pungent cheese has a history that dates back to 1463 from the mountains of Canton Glarus in Switzerland. Also known as Swiss Schabziger®, this unique cheese is still manufactured with the same recipe from a thousand years ago. It uses skimmed cow's milk mixed with aromatic blue fenugreek, which makes it so healthy and gives it its characteristic aroma and attractive green herb color.
Swiss Schabziger® recently added this Herb Cheese Powder to its product line. This is the same cheese that you've always purchased as a hard cone. The powder allows you to skip the work of grating. Its uses are endless -- consider sprinkling it over boiled or baked potatoes, noodles, pasta, pizza, soups and salads and even over apple and cherry pies. The Swiss often mix Sap Sago in equal parts with butter for a very tasty spread on fresh breads.
This almost fat-free cheese is for the more adventuresome. It keeps almost indefinitely at room temperature (however, we keep it under refrigeration), and you'll find that a little goes a long way because of its potent taste. It comes to us directly from Switzerland.
We still offer the traditional Sap Sago as a cone. If you prefer the cone, take a look at our Zyliss Classic Restaurant Rotary Cheese Grater to help make grating it easier.
