What is SNØ ™ by Snowflakes?

If you haven’t already heard, Snowflakes has recreated its brand of tasty, simple, and sugar-free Xylitol candy. The new brand line is called SNO and its packaging reminds you of where it comes from every time you look at it! They are unique by nature.Ultimately, SNO is short for Snowflakes. Snowflakes Candy has said that as a tribute to the Nordic region, which is thought to be the origin of xylitol, they adopted the Ø from the Norwegian alphabet. Furthermore, Snowflakes wants the Ø to be a cue to remember that Snowflakes Xylitol candy is free of sugar, dairy, fat, artificial colors and sweeteners, preservatives, and gluten.

Let’s start with some SNØ basics.
  • SNØ is sugar free.
  • SNO is made with northern birch bark Xylitol – not corn based.
    • a. Xylitol is a natural sweetener that our bodies mak! Xylitol can be found in the bark of birch trees as well as in other vegetables and fruits.
  • Only Natural flavorings are used.
    • The natural flavorings that are used in SNO candy meet the strict safety criteria and guidelines of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Snowflakes says that the “natural flavors come from real ingredients found in nature and contain absolutely no preservatives, colors, animal products, or GMO ingredients.”
  • These yummy Xylitol candy mints are Non GMO project Verified.
  • They are also Certified Gluten-Free.
  • SNO is also Certified Vegan.
  • These Xylitol candy mints contain no: sugar, wheat, soy, dairy, or corn!
  • SNO Xylitol candy, with a Glycemic Index of -7, will not impact insulin levels. Making it a great treat for those on a diabetic or low-glycemic diet.

Some Additional Information on Xylitol.

  • Xylitol tastes as sweet as sugar, but contains 75% fewer carbohydrates for 40% fewer calories.
  • Did you know that Xylitol is recommended worldwide by health and medical professionals and organizations? Some of these organizations include the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
  • Additionally, Xylitol is considered safe for women to eat during and after pregnancy, says the American Pregnancy Association.
  • Xylitol slows the growth of harmful, acid-producing bacteria that can cause plaque and tooth decay. How? Well, these bacteria are unable to digest xylitol. This makes Xylitol good for your teeth!

Interesting Notes on Xylitol.

  • Xylitol absorbs the heat produced by your mouth; it then transfers it back to the Xylitol, which is why you might get a cooling feeling when you eat it. This all means that Xylitol creates an endothermic reaction when you eat it!
  • Xylitol can make your mouth water, because it encourages your salivary glands.
